Young people are an important part of the job market, and improving the employment quality of young people has an important impact on individual career development. In this paper, we used the 2018 China Family Tracking Survey (CFPS) data to investigate the effects of non-cognitive abilities on the quality of employment and its four sub-dimensions based on the Big Five personality model. The results show that Affability and Neuroticism have a significant effect on employment quality and also on the sub-dimensions of employment quality, Dutifulness and Openness have a significant effect on the sub-dimensions although they do not have a significant effect on employment quality, and Extraversion does not have a significant effect on either employment quality or its sub-dimensions. CONCLUSION: The development of non-cognitive skills is the key to improving the quality of employment of young people. The development of non-cognitive skills should be taken into account in future educational efforts in schools and skills training in government organizations.
