Since the Macau Special Administrative Region government proposed the construction of a smart city in the first five-year plan in 2015, the smart city construction in Macau has gone through three stages: initiation, construction, and improvement, and has achieved certain results in four areas: government, transportation, tourism, and healthcare. However, due to the limited local market in Macau, a lack of technical talent and investment from technology companies, and insufficient government promotion, the construction of Macau's smart city still lags behind that of developed cities in China's mainland.
