Abstract

Through 21 months of firsthand observation and personal engagement, Engels wrote "The Condition of the Working Class in England," systematically portraying the multiple hardships endured by the British working class during the domestic crisis of the 1840s, and thereby clarifying the ideas of proletarian revolution. Engels argued that the profound suffering of the British working class was the catalyst for the outbreak of proletarian revolution. By conducting an in-depth analysis of the capitalist system, he revealed capitalism as the root cause of proletarian revolution, emphasizing that overthrowing capitalist private property through proletarian revolution is the only way to alleviate the deep suffering of the British working class. Through a thorough examination of the British labor movement, Engels highlighted that the historical course and trend of the British proletarian revolution lead toward communism.
