The urban heat island effect is a typical urban climate phenomenon, and its formation and intensity are closely related to land cover types. This study uses Landsat data from Xi'an in 2016 to invert land surface temperature (LST) based on the radiation transfer equation method. Through statistical analysis, ArcGIS buffer zone analysis, and other methods, the study investigates the impact of land cover types on the urban heat island effect in Xi'an. The conclusions are as follows: it is found that unused land and built-up areas promote the urban heat island effect, while vegetation and water bodies help alleviate it.
