From Sage Philosophy to Magic Medicine Soup: On the Modern Information Water and Its Yin-Yang Principles in the Zhouyi

Abstract

Starting from analyzing the masculine characteristics of WATER in the Book of Changes Zhouyi, this paper elucidates that water is the source of life and a symbol of masculinity in Chinese culture. The value of the Water Emperor is also endowed with the medium function of communication between heaven and humanity during witchcraft, divination, and sacrifice. the Yin-Yang principles of the hexagrams in the Zhouyi were materialized by Chinese Taoist doctors and utilized the mediating role of the "Water Emperor" to develop into a therapeutic talisman water that combines guidance techniques and medicinal herbs, achieving a perfect transition of water culture from sage philosophy to magical medicinal soup. The article discusses the relationship between Yin-Yang theory and Qigong, as well as the philosophical origins and scientific principles of modern Qigong information water, by tracing back to the cases of talismans water and Qigong in ancient Chinese medical history.
